Overturned Tanker Truck, Fuel Spill Closes Eastbound I-90 at Truck Town

UPDATE |  December 4, 2015, 11AM

WSDOT has cleared the tanker truck accident and  reopened eastbound I-90 at exit 34 through exit 81 near Roslyn. Earlier this morning, trucks were backed up to near exit 31 – so traffic going through the area could be tough for awhile.

ORIGINAL STORY

If you’re heading eastbound on I-90 this morning, you may encounter some extra cars and semis in the North Bend area – and you won’t be able to get across Snoqualmie Pass, which is currently closed.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), they’ve closed 50 miles of eastbound I-90, starting at exit 34 (Truck Town and Twin Falls Middle School).

Apparently a double tanker truck rolled over and blocked the eastbound lanes of I-90 at milepost 81 near Bullfrog/Roslyn/Cle 90 bullfrogElum.

The Washington State Patrol stated via Twitter that a fuel spill was creating a delay in uprighting the tanker. Reports indicated one of the tanker’s hulls was ruptured in the collision, causing the gasoline to spill.

Around 7:45AM WSDOT stated that it hoped to reopen eastbound 90 over Snoqualmie Pass by noon. A response team was working to drill the tank to pump remaining fuel off to another tank.

Friday morning WSDOT also tweeted, “3,300 gallons of diesel is making this a tough incident to clear.”

There is no word yet on what caused the accident. According to WSDOT, Snoqualmie Pass was hovering around freezing Friday morning and the roadway was bare and wet with slush in places.

When bad accidents happen and close Snoqualmie Pass, traffic is often held at exit 34. This story will be updated as more info becomes available.
