Election 2020: Washington State 5th District senate, house races include one primary, one unopposed

The candidate filing deadline – and deadline to withdraw candidacy – for the November 2020 general election has come and gone, giving residents of Washington’s 5th District – which includes Fall City, Issaquah, Maple Valley, North Bend and Snoqualmie – a clear picture of who will represent them in Olympia next year.

Incumbent 5th District Senator Mark Mullet (D) is seeking a third term. After the May 15th filing deadline, it appeared Mullet would be in a primary this summer, but earlier this week Republican candidate Todd Smelcer withdrew from the race.

Mullet will face Democratic Party challenger Ingrid Anderson, an Eastside nurse and longtime Snoqualmie Valley resident.

Incumbent 5th District Position 1 Representative Bill Ramos (D) is seeking a second term and will be in an August 4th primary. The two challengers are Unity Restorative Party member Cyrus Krohn and Republican Ken Moninski.

Krohn is an Issaquah resident and digital media executive and former digital political strategist. Moninski is a Maple Valley resident.

[Note: it was reported in the Snoqualmie Valley Record on May 19th that Ramos is running unopposed, but according to King County elections he has two opponents.]

Incumbent 5th District Position 2 Representative Lisa Callan (D) will serve a second term, as she is running unopposed. Callan is a former Issaquah School Board member.

State representative terms are for two years. Senate terms are four years.
