WSDOT: Bring Patience if Driving over Snoqualmie Pass this weekend

Heading east for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend?  If so, the Washington State Department of Transportation says to bring your patience – at least  between North Bend and Cle Elum – as Snoqualmie Pass typically sees a high volume of traffic .

WSDOT warns drivers on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass can expect higher-than-normal traffic volumes Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Monday afternoon.

As someone who has traveled this route on previous Memorial Days – they aren’t kidding.  That Monday coming home can be brutal.

If you hit the westbound I-90 back up on Monday, here’s a tip: After Ellensburg take the exit near Thorpe for Highway 97. From there follow it to Highway 10, which becomes Highway 903 and takes you through Cle Elum to Roslyn. Then get back on I-90 in Roslyn.  This route is really pretty and parallels I-90, and allows you  to bypass a large part of the I-90 traffic back up.

To help plan your travel , the vertical axis on the below graphs show the number of cars WSDOT expects on the roadway for that hour of day.  Red bars indicate probably stop and go traffic. (Photos: WSDOT website)

Enjoy the weekend Snoqualmie Valley!
