ORIGINAL STORY

With the initial results both levies were failing by a slim margin. King County Elections will continue to tally more ballots and post updated results each weeknight until the election is certified in late February.
As of election night, King County Elections had received about 31% of ballots back from registered SVSD voters.
Tuesday night, King County Elections posted the initial results of the February 13th Special Election, which included two local Snoqualmie Valley School District replacement levies: Proposition 1, a 4-year Educational Programming and Operations Levy and Proposition 2, a 4-year technology levy.

In the nearby Tahoma School District, levies were also failing, but by a larger margin. The Issaquah School District was seeing better results, with all three of its levies passing, but by a much smaller margin than ISD usually sees.

Last summer the state legislature passed a bill that increased the state school levy fund rate by nearly $1/1000 of assessed value for Snoqualmie Valley property owners, while capping the levy rate of local school districts. That new state increase began this year, while the capped local rates don’t start until 2019, making 2018 a complicated election year for numerous school districts running local levies in the Puget Sound region.

  • Yes: 48.97%
  • No: 51.03%

Proposition 2:

  • Yes: 49.96%
