Shortly before 9AM, Saturday, March 3, 2018, Eastside Fire & Rescue reported via social media that they were responding to Rattlesnake Ledge in North Bend after getting a report that someone had fallen from the ledge.
According to tweets, crews coordinated efforts with King County Search and Rescue and Seattle Watershed rescue personnel to hike into the victim, reported by the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to be a teenager.
By 9:30AM, EF&R unfortunately reported that their work would be a recovery mission.
A Rattlesnake Lake area resident reported some visible ice/frost/snow on ledge rocks and temps in the upper 20s and low 30s early Saturday.
According to KCSO, the “male teen fell several hundred feet after loosing his footing on icy terrain.” They also offered condolences to his family and friends.
A source familiar with the recovery mission said the victim was not a resident of the Snoqualmie Valley. Family later identified the 16-year old as Eddie Petrik of Des Moines. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with his funeral expenses.
Rattlesnake Ledge Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in the area. Hikers are advised to use extreme caution around its exposed cliffs and steep drops. The ledge sits at approximately 2000 ft.

This is so sad!! This happens at least once a year at Rattlesnake ledge. Why can’t they put a safety fence up or something??!!
You can’t prevent every accident from happening that is why they are called accidents. Safety fence? Right
