It was July 2017 when an inspection showed the play equipment at North Bend’s EJ Roberts Park was unsafe, requiring its removal… and at last, a new play structure was installed.
The City of North Bend announced last week that EJ Roberts finally has new playground equipment. The City Council approved funding the equipment replacement as part of the its 2018 budget process. The equipment – including a curving slide, climbing areas, swings, and teeter totters – cost approximately $47,700.
According to a city news release, the project stayed within budget by removing the Omni Spinner portion of the equipment and having staff install the play chips.
“Councilmembers and I would like to thank our Parks Commission for their valuable input and the many hours they spent on this much-needed project,” Mayor Ken Hearing said. “Thanks to their hard work, along with citizen input and support, community members can enjoy playground equipment at this popular park once again.”
The City is waiting on a contractor to remove the fence around the new play structure. Once that happens the equipment will be open and ready for its first ‘kid test spin.’
