New Principal for Fall City Elementary as Positions Shift for Assistant Superintendent Retirement

As the Snoqualmie Valley School District prepares for longtime staff member and current Assistant Superintendent, Don McConkey, to retire this month, there will be a shift at the helm of Fall City Elementary (FCE).

The district announced this week that current Twin Falls Middle School Assistant Principal, Monica Phillips, will become Fall City Elementary’s new principal when current principal, Dan Schlotfeldt, moves to the District Office to become the Director of Elementary Education for approximated 3,000 Snoqualmie Valley kindergarten through 5th grade students.

According to the SVSD website, Phillips was one of 35 candidates who applied for the FCE principal job and “after an extensive process that included interviews with Fall City staff, parents and SVSD administrators, Phillips emerged as the top candidate.”

Phillips comes to Fall City ES with 17 years of education experience. Before starting at Twin Falls Middle School this year, she worked at Islander Middle School on Mercer Island as a principal intern, 8th grade teacher and a student academic adviser.

She is a University of Washington graduate and earned her National Board Certification in 2005.  She also received a National PTSA Outstanding Educator Award in 2012.

Phillips’s new position is effective July 1, 2014. The process to find a replacement Assistant Principal for Twin Falls Middle School begins this week.
