Sammamish Trader Joe’s Opening February 21st, Possibly Easing Congestion at Issaquah Store

It’s been a year since the Issaquah Trader Joe’s relocated to a larger spot in the Issaquah Commons shopping center, right near Target.  Although the store is more spacious, there’s still a common complaint about the new location – parking and traffic congestion.

I guess that’s what happens when you drop a  popular specialty grocery store in the same shopping area as an always-busy Target.  But something is set to change in the Eastside suburbs this February that might ease some of that congestion.

The bustling  Sammamish Plateau is about to get its own Trader Joe’s – meaning residents there won’t have to continue driving to the Issauqah store.

In early 2013, Trader Joe’s began preparing  to take over Ace Hardware’s 11,500 square foot location at 490 228th Ave SE in the Sammamish Highlands Shopping Center.  Ace Hardware closed their doors in July and the popular grocery chain signed a lease in the fall.

When the Sammamish Trader Joe’s will actually open its doors appears to be the only lingering question, with Trader Joe’s website only saying “coming soon.”

But according to an employee at the Issaquah store, February 21, 2014, is the last updated opening date for the new Sammamish Trader Joe’s store. The employee explained the grocery chain is cautious with its opening dates, as things are always changing, but February 21st is the latest estimate heard.

It also sounds like Trader Joe’s will continue to add more stores in Washington.  The same employee also said a Kent location appears to be in the works.  No word on if Trader Joe’s will ever head to the Snoqualmie Valley.
