Mount Si Drama debuts ‘Pippin’ – even offered Dinner Theater performance

UPDATE | December 10th, 12:30pm

Even a snow storm can’t stop this show – or at least for more than one night. After the opening night cancellation due to snow, MSHS Dram debuts Pippen today.  The dinner theater performance is rescheduled for Monday, December 12th .  See below story for all the details .

ORIGINAL STORY

Since mid-September, Mount Si High School Drama students – under the direction of Choir teacher Haley Isaacs and Mount Si alumni, Taylor Westerlund – have been memorizing their lines, finding the blocking, learning dance routines, trying on costumes and spending endless hours painting and building sets to prepare for this weekend.

FINALLY,  the show is just about ready and MSHS Drama Departments hopes the community will all come out  to support hard-working students as they present the Broadway musical hit, Pippin!

As told by a traveling troupe of actors led by the cunning and charming Leading Player, Pippin is the circus-themed story of a young prince (played by Senior, Alex Kilian), heir to the throne, who is searching for his own “Corner of the Sky.” Young Pippin returns from university certain that he will find a fulfilling purpose in life. As encouraged by the Leading Player (played by Freshman, Catalina Jarocki), Pippin dabbles in battle, women, and politics looking for fulfillment, only to discover that true happiness is more complicated than he thought. With infectious tunes by Stephen Schwartz and Fosse inspired choreography, Pippin is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a somewhat dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises.  The show is rated PG-13.

Show times are 7pm on December 8th, 9th and 10th, with a 2pm matinée also on Saturday, the 10th

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for SVSD Students/Staff.  They can be purchased online HERE , in the main office or at the auditorium door while available.

Friday night’s show also features a dinner/theatre combination ticket that offers a dinner of salmon or chicken prepared and served by Mount Si High School Culinary Arts students, followed by early seating for Pippin. These tickets are $40 each and are available online only with a limit of 75.

Last year, Mount Si Drama was awarded a “5th Ave Theatre High School Award” for Best Costume Design and this year’s costumes are also said to be “amazing.” The students work hard to be recognized in all aspects of the theatre and hope to earn other nominations in the future.

The show also features a live pit orchestra made up of several musicians from the Mount Si Band Program.  The Pit Orchestra has been rehearsing since October and is led by Mr. Bill Leather, the newest Mount Si band director.
