Mount Si Cheer wins National Championship, places 2nd in World Competition

Something pretty amazing happened last weekend in Orlando, Florida. As the Snoqualmie Valley was dealing with snow storm after snow storm, the Mount Si Cheer Team hit the road, heading to Disney World (in between storms) to compete in the UCA National High School Championships from February 8-10th.

The team left Washington feeling good after grabbing two state titles the previous weekend…. and they did NOT disappoint. First they won the National Championship in the Super-Large Varsity Non-Tumbling GameDay Division and the next day earned a silver medal in the Super-Large Non-Tumbling Traditional Division. Fun Fact: the traditional division also featured a Washington State clean sweep, with Hanford High School winning gold, Mount Si silver and Eastside Catholic grabbing bronze.

Mount Si wasn’t done after those first performances, though. After finishing first and second in Nationals, they moved onto the World Championships, which they qualified for last year. In World Competition they earned a silver medal with their GameDay routine and placed 5th in the Non-Tumbling Traditional Division.

Mount Si Cheer is coached by Jessii Stevens, Robby Sotore and Tori Kirk. Team members commit to an intense, nine-month training schedule that also includes sideline cheering at Mount Si games and numerous regional competitions required to qualify for the National Championships. They also do community service projects throughout the year, including the recent Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

Congratulations! See the National Championship performance below:
