Latest Election Results: City Incumbents hold most seats, but school board incumbents face defeat

King County Elections tallied thousands more ballots on Thursday, November 9th, but the latest batch of counted ballots didn’t do much to change the initial results reported on election night. With a shrinking percentage of ballots left to count, most city incumbents still hold leads. The same can’t be said for school board incumbents who still trail their challengers.

Incumbent Snoqualmie councilwoman Kathi Prewitt appears poised lose her seat, trailing challenger Peggy Shepard by six points. The battle for the open Snoqualmie council seat will go to Matt Lasse, who holds a commanding lead over Terry Sorrenson.

In the two school board races, incumbent Tavish MacLean trails challenger Melissa Johnson by just over two points and incumbent Marci Busby trails Gary Fancher by almost six points. We predict Busby will also lose her seat, but the other race is still too close to call.

County election officials will continue tallying ballots and updating results each weekday at 4PM until the election is certified on November 28, 2017.

As of 8PM on November 9th, King County Elections reported that countywide approximately 43% of registered voters had returned ballots. Snoqualmie was surpassing that number with a 49% turnout. North Bend was at 38% and the Snoqualmie Valley School District was at 42%.

According to TV news reports, King County Elections said with a surge of returned ballots on election day, the 2017 general election could hit the 48% turnout of the 2013 general election. Right now, it doesn’t appear this election – with a lack of state and national races – will reach that level.
