Hiker Stranded in Ravine on Mt. Teneriffe Successfully Rescued

King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Guardian 2 helicopter responded to the North Bend area, Monday, March 2, 2015, to help rescue a climber stuck in the Mt. Si area, but wasn’t able to get to the mountain due to low clouds in the area.

King County Sheriff’s Office Sgt BJ Myers said the hiker went out Sunday night and got lost in a bad cell phone area. He was not injured, according to Myers. KCSAR believed the climber was on a “shelf on the north side of Mt. Si.”

Search and Rescue ground crews worked all day to locate and rescue the stranded hiker from Mt. Teneriffe, which sits adjacent to Mt. Si and is accessed from Mt. Si Road, just up from the Little Si and Mt. Si trailheads.

According to Seattle Mountain Rescue, SMR crews, along with teams from King County Explorer and King County 4×4 Search and Rescue spent most of Monday rescuing the hiker who, while trying to descend the mountain on Sunday, became stranded on a ledge in a ravine.

SAR teams hiked in and reached the man from both sides of the steep ravine. One team descended into the ravine, secured him with a rope and helped him out through a long series of rappels and some hiking to return to the main trail, where they then hiked off the mountain under darkness.
