Fiery, fatal collision closes SR 18 near Snoqualmie overnight

A fiery, head-on collision on SR 18 took the life of a 28-year old man and closed the highway for five hours overnight.

According to a Washington State Patrol incident report, the accident occurred at 10PM on May 15th when a Toyota Prius, traveling westbound, crossed the center line just west of the I-90 interchange. The car then struck a semi truck and became engulfed in flames.

The 54-year old driver of the semi was transported to Overlake Medical Center for observation. The deceased driver was from Eastern Washington. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

This was the second serious accident on SR 18 in a 10-hour period involving a vehicle that crossed the center line.

WSDOT will start construction a $150 million project to improve the I-90/SR 18 interchange and widen SR 18 between I-90 and the Raging River during the next 1-2 years. The project is currently in the planning and design phase.
