Big Weekend in North Bend – NEW Fire Station Open House and BIG Downtown Block Party

A new fire station in North Bend has been a long time coming, but in just a few short days, that new state-of-the-art facility gets its ribbon cut and doors opened to the public for an open house on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 11AM – 2PM.

The City of North Bend, Fire District 38 and Eastside Fire & Rescue are pleased to announce the completion of the new Fire Station 87 at 500 Maloney Grove Road in North Bend.  The facility replaces the more than 60-year old, aging fire station adjacent city hall in downtown North Bend.

The jointly owned and operated fire station is the result of a 2011, $5 million bond levy which voters approved with an overwhelming 73% majority .

“The project was conceived 25 years ago by then North Bend Fire Chief, Jerry Venera, when the land was purchased and a city services complex was envisioned,” according to Fire Chief Lee Soptich with Eastside Fire & Rescue.

Fire Station 87 provides services to customers in North Bend and Fire District 38. The facility now houses a minimum of three firefighters and two paramedics, with bay space to support a ladder truck, engine, aid car, water tender, and two paramedic units.

The open house event will provide residents the opportunity to tour the new fire station features and children can check out the fire engines and other emergency equipment.

Annual North Bend Block Party

The fire station grand opening ceremony and open house also coincides with North Bend’s 5th annual downtown Block Party. The family-friendly event runs from 12PM – 10PM on two city blocks that close to traffic for the day.

The weather forecast couldn’t be nicer for the packed with fun and entertainment Block Party.  There’s no admission charge and the event showcases an overflowing slate of music, activities and vendor booths of all types.
